Styling a $12 embarrassing dress
This post is a doozy! I had the most embarrassing thing happen with this outfit. I can laugh at it now.. sorta lol.
It all started with me wanting to post a dress that is currently for sale, that way if you like it, you can grab one for yourself. I wanted one that was budget-friendly but still cute, and I could show a couple of ways to style it.
I had bought a cape from Shein recently and ended up down their massive clothing rabbit hole. It’s easy to spend a ridiculous amount of time on that site. I ended up finding a few cute things, this $12 dress being one of them.
It came in quickly and I was pleasantly surprised how thick it was for the price. I was all excited to write a post about it. I decided to wear it to church, and it just happened I was running a little behind.
I put on the dress and out the door I went, I didn’t even bother to look at the back of it in the mirror. It’s a sweater dress, what would the point be? Well, unbeknownst to me, the slit was extra WIDE and long up the back and went clear up to the bottom of my butt cheeks, lol!
After church, we went to the grocery store, it was there that hubs noticed it and said, “is your butt supposed to be hanging out of your dress like that?” Ummm, whaat? and no, I dress crazy but I am usually modest in covering things up so I thought he was kidding as usual, when I realized he was serious I took off the shrug I was wearing and wrapped it around me. I couldn’t get out of the store fast enough. The pronunciation of embarrassed is almost literal in this case=I’m-bare-assed lol
Nothing like having your caboose hanging straight out of your dress at church of all places lol. Thankfully and funny that the message was on not judging others LOL!! We also sat in the back row so I only flashed most of the staff UGGH lol.
I had worn the heavy coat since it was chilly out so I didn’t feel the draft when we left. When I took the coat off at church, I am always cold and just thought it was the standard slit causing the extra breeze lol. You can bet I will ALWAYS double check the back of my dresses from now on.
Now, if I had paid attention to the photos on their site, I would have seen it plain as day, but I had scrolled through so many I guess I didn’t see it. I am keeping the dress. It’s really cute, I will just sew 90% of that slit up lol.
This photo is NOT me, but it’s the photo from the site of what the back was supposed to look like, the slit was higher on my dress I guess it was a sewing error to have peek-a-boo cheeks. I can’t imagine how high it would be on a woman of regular height lol.
On to the actual details of the dress, if you are still interested after this glowing review. The price is $12.75 at the time of this post. I had a coupon code and got it for less. Here is the link- Shein dress
I styled it first with a just a Banana Republic double-breasted coat that I thrifted a few years ago, a vintage Amanda Smith leopard hat, and a snakeskin belt that I bought for $5 at Walmart. The only change I made on the 2nd one was adding a shrug to help tie it with the beautiful Vince Camuto Kashiana snakeskin boots.
I also did a casual version with vintage over the knee Ralph Lauren riding boots, a cable knit beret, and the $5 navy peacoat I had recently thrifted.
An eventful fashion day lol. I am used to people talking about how I dress, this time I gave them plenty of ammo lol. It’s good to laugh at yourself sometimes.
Have a blessed day!
