Backward styling

I am often asked how I decide to style an outfit. The answer varies since it depends on the day. I have a weird knack for looking at a piece of clothing or accessory and imagining it styled in different ways. I decide what piece I want to highlight and work the rest from there. Recently I bought this beautiful scarf for just $1. I love the rich colors and wanted to style an outfit around it. I often style an outfit backwards, starting with accessories first.

I keep my entire closet organized by color to make it easier to find what I am looking for. After scanning my shoes, I chose a cute pair of red and gold heels that match almost perfectly, so now my outfit to be is 2 pieces in.

Pulling the gold and black detail from the scarf and shoes, I picked a matching chain belt, purse and fedora.

When I want an accessory to be the star of the show, I usually keep the outfit plain or all the same color.

A simple mock turtleneck tank dress by Shein will create the look I am going for. The dark black helps the red to really pop.

The outfit is fine here, but adding a simple and lightweight cape gives the dress a little extra glam.

Another option is replacing the fedora with the scarf for a fun Grace Kelly throwback. There is something so posh about a headscarf.

If you have a favorite pair of shoes or accessories, backward styling is a great way to showcase them.

Hope your day is a blessed one,

Eden
