Pretty in PINKS
It’s LOVE month y’all! I haven’t been feeling very lovely, Feb has been a rough start, 2 trips to the ER, one for my mom, then my daughter, I got a lovely case of STREP throat, followed by an ice storm and freezing temps in Texas that knocked our power out and it’s only the 7th lol. We were reminded how much we love electricity lol. Hopefully, we got the worst of Feb over with. I thought a pretty pink color and a DIY project would change my outlook on LOVE month.
After this seeing this USED $190 gorgeous pink coat with fur trim on Poshmark, it was in love at first sight and I wanted to recreate my own for a fraction of the cost. I bought the waterfall coat by Hot & Delicious on Poshmark for $19. It’s a dusty pink, I didn’t want a bubble gum color. I purchased a long pink faux fur scarf online for $16 that matched a fur scarf I already had to make the cuffs. I will be using the leftover fur for another project. The color is unique so I had to get the exact fur to match.
This is a messy but easy project, if you would like to make your own, all you need is fur, a measuring tape, scissors, and a glue gun.
Start by measuring your cuff, the front was 5” so I need a 10” piece to go all the way around. You want it to be snug enough that it does not come off but comfortable enough to slip on. You can decide how wide you want the piece to be. Start with the back of the fur facing up, mine was satin lined and there was an opening to put one end through the other to wear it, it worked out perfectly for length and size. I cut the end off right where the opening started, and cut straight down the line of the fold. Just make sure you are working with the back of the fabric. To secure, I overlapped the ends and used hot glue to secure the satin to the backing and glued the ends together. It doesn’t have to be perfect, the fur hides a lot. Flip it right side out and you have an easy cuff that will fit right over the sleeve.
For the dress, I wanted to break up all the pink and went with a charcoal gray turtleneck dress a Goodwill find for $9. It picked up the gray in the boots to pull them together.
This is the coat before, it’s cute all on it’s own. It’s a lighter weight material so it’s not overly hot. If you are doing a search for one, try using shawl collar or waterfall, they both have large lapels.
My fur collar has clips attached at the bottom so it clips to your lapel. I slipped on the fur cuffs and a glam coat was born.
The Vince Camuto mauve snake Kervana boots and an $8 Target hat with a cute fur ball from Poshmark add varying shades of pink.
Switching just the boots to ShoeDazzle Charlize over the knee faux suede with ornate gold heels, in a darker shade, helps to pull forward some of the darker pink in the fur. These gorgeous boots are sold out and were also purchased from Poshmark.
If you don’t have or like faux fur, a silky scarf always looks great with a belted coat. This one was $4 from Goodwill.
3 ways to wear a waterfall coat. I love this pink ensemble, a glammed up outfit always puts me in a great mood!
Blessings!
