Happy Easter!
He is RISEN indeed! Happy Easter to all. For some, today is all about bunnies, candy, trying to remember where you hid all the eggs and wonderful aromas of family favorite dishes coming from the kitchen.
For Christians, it’s also a day of joyful celebration of our risen savior Jesus Christ. Our church service was amazing this morning, there is so much hope and peace in the message of God’s love for us. It was a packed house. It always makes my heart so happy to hear everyone singing together and seeing new faces. I also admit I enjoy seeing all the pretty dresses too lol.
Just about every Easter, I thrift my outfit. I like to see what I can come up with. You can never go wrong with a girly-girl floral, this White House Black Market floral dress was only $11.50
Surprisingly, I did not have a pair of shoes to match the unique colors of the dress, not quite lavender not quite pink, so I grabbed an old pair of worn gold ones and painted them to match, then added DIY floral clips to them and the belt. Problem solved! Or maybe it’s problem created since I love creating new shoes a little too much lol.
To paint your own shoes, first, try it on an old or damaged pair of shoes so you don’t ruin a good pair in case you don’t like the results. Different shoes take the paint differently, Patent leather is not the best choice, so it will be trial and error to find the ones that take the paint the best. Use Angelhaus leather paint (Amazon) and their satin or gloss finisher. I used satin on these since I don’t love really shiny shoes.
Wipe the shoes down thoroughly with fingernail polish remover to clean and dull the finish. Let them dry completely.
Tape off the areas you don’t want painted with painter’s tape.
Using a smaller angle brush, paint a thin and even coat, avoid brush marks or globs of paint. The shoes will take several coats depending on the color you are changing to. They will look awful until you get a few coats on so don’t give up.
Make sure to let each coat dry completely, that is a really important step.
Once they have dried apply the finisher coat, I apply it twice, letting the first coat dry overnight.
Certain shoes will crack, so keep touch-up paint should that happen.
The flower clips are made by removing the flower head from the stem, cutting off the stem holder so it is flat, and attaching it with hot glue to an alligator clip, like the ones you use on hair bows. That way you can wear them also in your hair, belt, or lapel.
A great way to give new life to old shoes!
I hope your Easter was filled with faith & family and the knowledge that you are loved beyond any measure.
Happy Easter, friends!!
