French chair makeover

DIY time! I believe in every ugly piece of furniture there is an inner beauty just waiting to be discovered. One of the best things about DIY furniture makeovers is you can create them to be whatever you want.

Years ago, I bought a French Provincial table and 4 chairs for $25. Ahhh, memories of when you could buy quality furniture for next to nothing. I blame the DIY channel and Pinterest for my inability to find great deals like this now lol. I digress. Some of the chairs were not in great shape, I sold the table long ago but still have a couple of these chairs that I repaint every few years. This particular one had been in our garage since we moved here. Once I finished the Gothel bedroom, (which I know I still need to post) I knew what I wanted to do with this sad, broken chair.

She got a fresh coat of gold spray paint which helped her out immediately. I glazed the legs to give them a little more depth.

I had some leftover fabric from the valance I had made for the room. I decided to cover the broken cane instead of repairing it. I stitched and glued the fabric directly on the cane, front & back, and trimmed it in red cording to add some pop as well as hide the edges.

Now she is a beaut who matches her new home. The whole process took about an hour after the paint dried.

Years ago, I painted one of the other chairs in the set with a French country look to go with a desk I had painted red. I love Provincial furniture, the curvy and detailed legs can make it fancy or plain depending on the paint or fabric.

When I tire of this or change the decor again, these chairs will go through yet another redo. These chairs will always be one of my favorite purchases.

Don’t be afraid to buy an ugly chair at a thrift store, you can paint it to match the style and room. It’s always a fun reveal.

Blessings,

Eden
