Valentine’s Day styling & 2 DIY projects
With Valentine’s Day just a few days away, I wanted to post a couple of easy projects and a few fun outfit ideas. I hope your plans for LOVE day find you surrounded by those you love and care for! I am blessed to spend it with my forever boyfriend, aka my wonderful hubs. He puts up with all my craziness and that should earn him some type of awesome hubs medal. No other man would ever put up with all my clothes & shoes lol. Speaking of shoes… I am going to show you how to make these adorable heart shoe clips for your date night.
I will also show how to refashion a ridiculously long prom skirt,
plus styling 4 outfits for LOVE day, whew! A lot to cover in this post. Let’s get started!
I always talk about cute shoes being a staple of a memorable outfit. The grand poobah of heels would be anything by Christian Louboutin, however, they are about the price of a month’s rent. When I saw this pix of their heart heels in leopard and black ($750 a piece) I loved the look for LOVE day and knew I could make something similar for very little money.
Hobby Lobby had their Valentine’s items on sale, I bought a package of heart stickers for $2. I didn’t want to stick them on the shoes since I didn’t want to risk damaging the finish so I left the sticker backing on. They are not patent hearts like the original, but they work just fine. I always keep blank shoe clips on hand since I like to create a lot of shoe embellishments. A little hot glue to attach the clip to the heart and BAM you have an adorable new holiday shoe for less than $3!
Such a cute and inexpensive way to add a little LOVE to a basic black or leopard pair of heels.
Onto the outfits! The pieces are a combo of new and second hand. A cute sheer red hearts top I bought from Shein for $11 last year, The black turtleneck dress was new from NBC for $8, A bright red waterfall coat, $10 from Poshmark, I thrifted the rest, a $5 black & white skirt I call Alice (Wonderland vibe) along with an extra long new $5 prom skirt with graphic roses, black satin pants I thrifted over a decade ago, a $5 red crinoline I’ve had for a while, and my favorite is the oh so adorable lips purse for $10, what a perfect bag for LOVE day!
Let’s start with the prom skirt, it still had the original tags. It was for an EXTRA tall person since it flowed well over my dress form. This was a simple project, I laid it on the table and took out a skirt that was the length I wanted this one to be, laid it on top, and simply used it as a template to cut the excess off. I plan to add a black piping trim to the bottom but ran out of time. A lot of visual bang for $5.
Adding the red crinoline is not necessary, but gives it fullness and an extra pop of RED. Hearts and roses are a perfect choice for a Valentine’s Day date night.
What a fun skirt! I paired it with a new rhinestone bow belt from Ross, it gives the waist a good cinch and a little bling!
Graphic floral skirts are not always easy to find, just about any skirt would look cute with this top, but I love the “Alice” skirt with it too. Both full skirts give off that vintage vibe I love, they look great with both types of heels. Either will be a good choice to go out on the town with my guy.
A toned-down option would be the satin pants, it’s dressy but not as over the top as the skirts. These vintage wide leg Ann Taylor beauties have been in my closet for over a decade. They are the perfect pant for a holiday date night.
Shifting away from the top, I recently bought this adorable red & black fedora online for $11 and the charm chain belt from Ross for $8, I kept the dress basic black to showcase all the cute accessories.
I am in LOVE with this bag, adding the heart clips to the leopard shoes makes such an adorable set, I am always a fan of leopard print. Adding a pink & red heart scarf breaks up the black and looks great with the coat.
I always LOVE a glam style, and Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to get extra dressed up to go out with your person, friends, or enjoy the pleasure of your own company and paint the town RED! Hope your day is blessed and filled with SO much love!
LOVE you all!
