You all know by now that I am an out of the box thinker when it comes to styling things. I really love to have unique items that I don’t see on every rack in a store. This one is a doozy!

I always look in the linen section for scarves and unique fabrics to recover things, when I saw this round table cloth in such a cute print I thought it would make an adorable circle skirt! The hem and circle are already done so all I would need to to do is to do is add a waist back. For $3.50 if I messed it up it wouldn’t be a big investment. I couldn’t buy 2 yards of fabric for that price.

Here’s how to do it if you would like to make your own! You will need your tablecloth, elastic for the waistband, a measuring tape, calculator, pins or chalk, and a sewing machine.

Fold your tablecloth in half, and then half again so it looks like a triangle.

Measure your waist, add 1 inch and divde by 6.28 this will tell you how many inches down you need to cut the fabric for the waist. At the top point of the fabric put your measuring tape at the tip and pin or chalk you measurement in the center. Holding the top down move your tape and pin to your measurement until you have it marked from end to end.

Cut your line and when you open the fabric you should have a circle in the center.

Take your elastic and put it around your waist, fitting as snugly as you want it to and cut the end. Sew the ends together, I used a zigzag stitch and wen over it 3 times to reinforce it. Turning the waistband wrong side out, pin it to the front of the fabric. Start at the center front, then the center back, then each end, stretch the elastic as you go and pin so there are no big gaps.

Sew the elastic to the fabric, flip it over and you should have a finished skirt. The whole thing took under an hour, it will go faster the next time since I know what I am doing now lol.

I can find thrift skirts for about the same price, but this is a great way to have a one of a kind item and lets my creative ideas flow. There is something fun (and I guess a little weird) about knowing you are wearing a tablecloth lol.

It passed the twirl test, which for $4, who can beat that?? I am sure this will be the first of many tablecloth fashions I will be creating lol!
