Styling a $5 maxi skirt 2 ways
You all know by now that I can not say no to a floral maxi skirt! This is the 2nd one of two I bought at the same time at the beginning of the year. I already posted the navy one in early spring. I love the bold colors and large flower print. I also love their versatility. The great thing about maxi skirts as I have shared in the past is how easy they are to style into other outfits.
This one does not have an elastic waist so it can’t be styled into an off-the-shoulder dress like the navy one
But, pulling the maxi up and adding a belt always makes a cute summer dress, and makes it much less formal.
Unless you add a big hat, which I almost ALWAYS do!
You can find maxi skirts galore at most thrift stores. These thrifted lovelies were only $5 for the skirt and $6 for the turtleneck. A cute outfit for $11. If you like this skirt, you can find it on walmart.com Floral skirt set it comes with a red crop top for only $17, still a great price for such a cute skirt.
Paring this with a turtleneck tank top tones down the formality but keeps it vibrant, pulling the red out of the skirt. You could lose the hat and opt for flat shoes to tone it down even further, but being vertically challenged, I have to wear heels with just about everything or spend a fortune at the tailor. These cute red and white spectator heels are by Steve Madden and the red and gold ones are by Just Fab.
Don’t be afraid to wear more formal skirts in a casual way. Fashion is meant to be fun and enjoyed year-round, not just on special occasions.
Blessings,
Eden
