Throw into a dress

Merry Christmas eve eve! Some of our kids have come home and I am one happy mama! We are baking treats later so I am not sure this dress will fit in a few days lol.

Lately, I have been in a sew it mode when it comes to fashion. I get an idea in my head of something I want to wear and if I can’t find it, I decide to try and make it. TRY being the operative word lol.

This cute cable knit throw was 60% off at Michaels, I thought it would look so cute as a dress with a wrap. I had seen something similar a while back on Pinterest and decided to give it a go.

It’s still in the 60’s here so I wanted to make a sleeveless turtleneck since the wrap would be quite warm. The actual construction of the dress was easy, but OH MAN dealing with knits should be a punishment for petty crimes. It unravels so quickly you have to work fast.

I started by laying out the throw, and using a an old dress as a template I laid it on top and pinned where it would go. If you chose to try this, make sure to run it thru the sewing machine BEFORE you cut it out, that will help to cut down on the unraveling.

The sleeves were the issue, the knit kept curling so I used it to create the ruffled sleeve. Lemons to lemonade.

The ends are bunchy for lack of a better word. After ironing it, it did help quite a bit.

I just folded the other throw in half to make the shawl and draped it around the shoulders.

This is the dress by itself, I don’t see that I would probably wear it without the shawl. I did put a red slip underneath to help with the see-through knit.

Of course, I added fur to it, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t lol. I will certainly do this project again but not with cable knit!

Blessings,

Eden
