THE swimsuit dilemma

If someone would have told me a year ago, that I would be posting photos of myself for the world to see, I would have laughed and called them crazy. If the same nut said there would be SWIMSUIT photos, I would have straight belly laughed, offered to bedazzle their straight jacket and then swear it would never be me.

Yet here I am doing that very thing. Never say never has never been more true lol.

Nothing strikes fear into the heart of most of us women like the dreaded swimsuit. Being photographed in one?? Those are fighting words, now add that you are over 50?? Well, honey that’s a cage match.

Even before posting them, I was talking to my daughter about this crazy, unheard of thing her mom was about to do, I don’t think most kids want their mom putting a swimsuit photo on blast, but she gave me her full support. Hubs said “ what’s the big deal? it’s not like you are wearing pasties or a string bikini” LOL. He always has a colorful way of putting things in perspective. I can wear any crazy thing all day long and not wince once… but the swimsuit, I think it’s a just hard-wired, love-hate relationship.

I swim to stay in shape, so I buy a lot of swimsuits. Since I use them so much, they fade out quickly. At the end of every summer season, NBC sells them for $2-6 each…

So I load my cart up, but only a few will actually make it to the register. It starts the minute I hit the small dressing room, with those unflattering interrogation room lights and that full-length truth serum mirror. The complaining ensues quickly… too tight, too big, looks like a tent, looks like dental floss, too itchy, too saggy, the color is hideous, the list goes on. Then THE dilemma happens…do I buy the one that fits right but it’s just ugly or the one that the color/print/style is sooo cute but looks like a busted can of biscuits put on a swimsuit. It’s a misconception, that just because someone is a smaller size, that they don’t struggle with swimsuit war too. Finally, at the bottom of what was quickly becoming the “no freakin’ way” pile, I found one that I actually love!

Black, the color that is the friend to every woman, cute crochet lace detail and it fit perfect. The brand is Mossimo. I like to wear it with the wide-leg American Rag pants, Hawaiian wrap and of course my signature big floppy hat! The pants are so comfy, I bought them in white as well. Also at NBC for $10 each.

We have a lot of pool parties so I like to have suits that look great with skirts and pants/cover-up and this one is a winner.

Wouldn’t it be great if finding the perfect swimwear wasn’t the fashion equivalent of a root canal? But just like in life, without some awful ones, you wouldn’t really appreciate THe great one.

So much grief for something we wear a few months out of the year. However, for all the flack I give myself through the years during swimsuit season, I suspect that when I am reallly old, and leaf back through these pages I will miss the body that I find flaw with today, just like I have with every decade that passes. Just one more reason I am glad to be capturing it all for my future self to enjoy.

Blessings,

Eden
