Styling a $6 prom skirt
My outfit today comes to you from the PROM aisle in my favorite store NBC (halfofhalf.com) now we all know I am a LOOOONG way from my prom days LOL, but I always look through the formals racks when they are having a crazy good sale. In this case 1/2 off. Zero chance I would pass up a fancy schmancy $6 skirt. The brand is Sequin Hearts. The formality of it didn’t bother me, almost any piece can be toned down depending on what you put with it.
It’s hard to see in the photos, but the flowers are a peachy pink color. I usually try to choose the least represented color in a print for my accessories. This shade of pink can be a difficult color to match, but I had the perfect top and blazer already in my closet. A thrifted Anne Klein turtleneck top for only $5.
The Ralph Lauren silk blazer is part of a vintage pantsuit set I bought a long time ago. A blazer will quickly office up just about any skirt. Having a solid light color on top draws the eye up and away from the skirt. I also added a white flower clip and a black necklace to help break up the color just enough.
It’s far too hot here in Texas right now for a blazer, so I would wear this without it.
I opted for fancy heels, again to draw the attention away from the skirt and to pull the pinky color out. Shoes are one of the easiest ways to distract the eye.
$5 casual Walmart sunglasses and a floppy hat, turn the glam volume back up a little since that is just my personal style. This outfit is a perfect example that you don’t have to spend a lot to look like you do.
Blessings,
Eden
