I realized it’s been a hot minute since I have posted any DIY projects. I have a folder full of them but just seem to forget when putting outfits together. Today is our guest bedroom makeover.

When it comes to designing a bedroom, I love a shock and awe bed, and then work the rest of the room from there.  In one of the guest suites, I wanted to create a room that would make our guests feel like they were in their own private villa.  

This room has a grand stone balcony that overlooks the pool and the property

as well as a 2nd side balcony that is shared with the other guest room. It’s a jaw-dropper for sure.

Since the bed would be the 2nd focal point,  I wanted to keep wall decor to a minimum and all the colors and textures soft & creamy to avoid an eye circus. Fur throws and pillows, silk curtains, lampshades and plush bedding.

I wanted character. A FB marketplace $80 unique antique armoire, that was designed to completely come apart, made transporting easy. Age-worn beauty. I love pieces that have history. I painted and recovered the door inserts with lace. I left the rest as it was.

The bed…oh man!! An acquaintance had an antique ROUND bed for sale. The minute I saw it I had to have it. $150 later it was in the truck. The old velvet was tattered in places and looked like a Barney & Elvis offspring.  Hubs starting singing “boom chick a bow-wow”, ( the standard porn music melody). He felt a round bed just was extra OTT, even for me.

It could have been wrapped in a cactus and I still would have bought it. Yes, it may look a little porn-ish but you have to admit it’s not something you see every day.  Exactly what I wanted.

MANY hours and tons of staples later, porno Barvis had left the building, and I was left with the ornate hull.  New fabric and padding in the middle insert. Tan ticking fabric was the secondary.  I raised the headboard higher with legs, so the detail would still be visible once the pillows were on it. 

I glazed the paint, added a baroque trim and French provincial feet to the bottom, to make it one of a kind.

I spray-painted/glazed a GW $5 pot rack and hung it above the bed with Ikea tan window curtains.

The glass doors get A LOT of sun.  Stripe silk fabric sewn to the front of heavy blackout drapes, along with tan linen curtains from IKEA.  Hubs made the cornice boards, I covered them in tan ticking and the same clearance fabric as the bed. 

I already had the dresser and nightstands.  I painted and glazed them to match.

Not a lot of need for a fireplace in Texas, but seeing one that looked like china hutch? Yeps. Need it. It was closeout at Walmart for $90. The hutch holds the coffee maker and micro-fridge. I painted it and added molding to age it a little.

I always make sure my guest rooms have fluffy towels, snacks and a coffee maker in the room. The vintage suitcase is a cute storage for toiletries.

It’s girly. Not a place a man really wants to hang out and have a beer, but so far, all the women who have stayed here love it lol.

I also have an ivory velvet comforter that I like as well, It’ll be great for the holidays. I am working on new bedside lighting fixtures that will be a future post.

It’s so quiet and peaceful here in the country. The terrace is a perfect place for a cup of coffee and a good book, that is until the hell fire Texas sun comes out. Maybe I should add sunburn gel to the guest goodie basket.
