Today I am adding a little DIY project to my outfit. I have seen posts about spray painting footwear and I have been wanting to try it for a while now. I finally decided to pull the trigger since I haven’t been able to find dark navy dress boots that I liked. I thought it would be a good color for my first experiment with it.

I went to find boots at the thrift store to try it since I didn’t want to ruin one of my pairs if I did something wrong. I was lucky that one of the stores I go to put out a box of free/broken things before they throw them out, and there was a pair of real leather miscolored boots, the soles looked brand new and unworn but there was creasing in the boot shaft, 1 had clearly been left out in the sun, one looked great. This was a perfect pair to try my hand in painting them since they couldn’t look worse than they already did and you can’t beat the price of FREE.

I was actually surprised how easy this way to do. To do this yourself, clean the boots with alcohol or acetone to remove oil and dull the finish, stuff the boots so that the paint will not drip inside. Use short strokes so you don’t over-saturate and have drips and don’t spray too close. I used enamel but they actually make one that adheres to plastic and rubber, they just didn’t have a dark enough blue for my project. Let it dry for 24 hrs and spray on a clear coat.

I have no idea how durable they will be, leather boots are prone to scratching as it is but the good thing is I can always give them a touch-up if needed. For free boots I am happy with how they turned out.

For the outfit, I bought the vintage plaid skirt last year from eBay. I love the bright colors. the turtleneck was $3 at NBC and I thrifted the vintage belt for $3. Whenever I wear gray it gives me an excuse to drag out my long faux fur.

This outfit has a hippie pimp vibe lol. It’s a fun one to wear. A little over the top but so I am.
