Gram to boho glam

One of the comments I get most often from those who follow me on social media is that their thrift stores do not have cute clothes. Some are right, finding one that has good inventory makes all the difference but it’s also easy to overlook something that doesn’t look great on a hanger or you don’t think it’s your taste. With that in mind, I purposefully picked this dress to restyle because I see similar ones at every thrift store I go to.

No offense to any grandmas, I am one myself 8 times over, but I call this look gram wear. Shiny polyester, elastic neckline, extra roomy, ultra comfy. Nothing at all wrong with them but honestly, it is my personal anti-style lol.

I would have walked past this thing 100 times, which makes it perfect for this post since I wanted to show that even my anti-style can be made into something cute with a little imagination. Both pieces in this look were inexpensive and purchased at GW.

How did I choose the boho style? Bell sleeves always make a cute boho outfit. The thing this dress needed most was a defined waist so that the cute sleeves could be the focal point, before they just blended into the roomy body of the dress.

There are a lot of colors to work with here, but since the overall hue is dark, I chose ivory to help bring lighten it up a little. The $8 Cato long vest elongates the look and has the boho vibe and the color I wanted.

Turning the elastic necklkine into an off-the-shoulder style, gives a totally different look, then adding the vest creates more definition to the sea of brown. Tailored styling will always look the best, regardless of your size.

In the before photo, I purposefully chose flip-flops to show the difference a heel can make in elongating your frame. At just 5’2, I always need that lol. The chunky heel on the gladiator boots is comfortable and appropriate for the style. These boots were new at GW and only $14! Adding a Target floppy hat and Walmart $5 round sunglasses adds to the boho look.

This outfit can easily transition to year-round wear with its fall colors, by just changing the boot style.

I actually like this dress now, but I didn’t on the hanger. If you are having problems finding cute thrift items, try expanding your criteria and how it could be restyled, look for that hidden gem. Sometimes when thrifting you find great pieces, and other times you get to make pieces great.

Blessings,

Eden
