DIY cape & shoe clips
When you thrift as often as I do, you are bound to find lots of duplicate items. Such was the case for this leopard skirt by Cato. I thrifted the original one for $5. It was really cute and looked great all by itself.
Then found the exact one a few months later for $7.
I didn’t buy it at first since I wanted to give someone else the opportunity to get this well made skirt, at our Goodwill, items stay for about 4 weeks then it goes to the BINS. After the 3rd time seeing it still on the rack, I decided to purchase it to make it into a matching cape/skirt set and bow clips.
I started by folding the skirt in half, and cutting it from the hem to the waist.
I cut the elastic waistband off the top, I think it will make a great belt for another project.
Turning it inside out, I put it on the dress form to pin where the shoulders would be.
I had to adjust it a couple of times to get it just right. After cutting off the excess of the rounded shoulders, I pinned double-fold trim on the raw edges. The fabric is stiff enough that the collar stays, but I do have a cape pin if I wanted to add that.
I put the original skirt on the dress form to see make sure it looked the way I wanted it to.
With some of the leftover fabric and fold trim, I made 2 small bows and glued them to shoe clips, it just adds a little kick to have matching shoes.
This is such an easy project, and it looks like they have always been a set. A great outfit with a higher end vibe for just $13!
Blessings,
