How to pop a nautical outfit

Ahoy mateys! You can’t call it summer without at least one nautical-inspired outfit. Striped top and white pants, so simple. It’s a timeless classic, as you can see in 1977 ad.

As usual, I like to add an unconventional pop to an old favorite. Suspenders are a great way to dress up any pair of pants. They look really cute with jeans or a suit and tie. They are also slimming, YAY bonus.

Ralph Lauren is boss at statement style, he put the suspender buttons on these white nautical-inspired pants. No clip-ons here. Oh Ralph, you sooo get me. I bought them at NBC for $9. I adore them. The suspenders were $10 on ebay. They came with clip-ons AND leather loops. You can always sew buttons on a pair of pants to use the more attractive loops. They also do not come undone the way clips can after time.

The classic boat neck, navy stripe top (also Ralph Lauren) is a must-have staple. It’s a summer style that has staying power. It’s a top you see a lot so make yours a little different with a scarf or suspenders. I always get a lot of compliments on this outfit.
